Pirates Softball

     Since Michael and I have been in Dominica, we've been playing as many sports as we possibly can.  Last semester it was Pirate's softball, Prestige Worldwide Kick Ball, and Volleyball.  We won the championship for softball and kick ball last year.  Which brings me to this year.  We just played softball and kickball this semester, because we simply didn't have time for any other sports.

     This year, we didn't quite make the finals for kickball, but we did however have an UNDEFEATED Pirates softball season.  Today we played our playoff games.  First, we played the spouse team.  This is the team we played in the championship game last semester and beat in a really tough game.  And today was no different.  We played in the rain the entire game, with no where to take cover.  After winning that game, we had an hour in between to see which team we would play in the finals.  We ended up playing the 2nd semester team, or in other words, Michael's classmates.  We played in what I like to call a MONSOON!!  By the end of the game we were all dripping wet and miserable, but we came out on TOP!  So, for the second semester in a row we are SOFTBALL CHAMPIONS!  

     This will be our last semester as a team, since our whole team is made up of 4th semesters, except us!  Sad I know.  But, we will forever in our hearts be PIRATES in Dominica.  We've enjoyed every minute of it!

Rosalie Bay

     Michael and I spent all day yesterday at Rosalie Bay.  Can I just say that it was amazing!!  We arrived around 1:30 yesterday and headed straight for the beach.  We weren't allowed to actually get into the water, due to the strong rip current, but it was still amazing just taking in the beautiful views.  After the beach, we headed to the pool and had a few drinks and soaked up some sun.  I couldn't believe how hot the sun felt in Rosalie, compared to what it feels like in Picard.  Much much hotter.

     I enjoyed some nachos for lunch, and then a few hours later we both enjoyed an amazing dinner.  Michael had a kind of shrimp pasta, and I had the Glazed Lamb Shank!  Can I just say YUM!  The food was amazing, as well as the service we were provided.  We enjoyed a couple glasses of wine and chatted with the owners for a bit.  They are great people.  It's so amazing to see what they have done with this place.  It took 8 years, yes you heard me right...8 years to build this amazing place.  They have the only wind turbine on the island, which produces about 70% of their electricity.  Amazing right?  So, for those of you in Dominica, or any others who read this, you should definitely go visit this amazing place.  I can't begin to describe or put into words just how beautiful it is!  You'll just have to see for yourself. Until next time.

2nd Semester

So, I've totally been slacking with the whole blog thing lately.  I've been busy busy since I've been back to Dominica.  For those of you who didn't know, I took my nursing boards while at home for Christmas break, and PASSED!!  So I'm officially a nurse now, although actually getting a nursing job in Dominica is nearly impossible.  


I've enjoyed just relaxing this semester, without having to study all the time.  The past few days have been absolutely beautiful, so I've been taking advantage and hanging out at the pool pretty much everyday.  Yesterday, I went on my first whale watching cruise.  We didn't actually get to see any whale's, but it was still a nice trip, with some great views.  If there's anything about Dominica that I love, it's the views and scenery here.  You really can't get much prettier. 

A few weeks ago, Michael and I had our marriage retreat or "Engaged Encounter" if you will.  All I can say is that it was a very "different" experience.  We were taken to the mountains of Dominica for the entire weekend, with 12 local Dominican couples.  Michael and I were separated and put into rooms that we shared with a local.  The first night, I didn't sleep at all due to the loud snoring of my roommate.  We were woken up at 6am by someone banging on our door, and given 30 minutes to be ready.  And the worst part of the whole weekend was the food.  Just imagine anchovy salad for breakfast...need I say more??  But, all in all, it was a great experience.  Especially being able to see/learn the ways of the Dominicans.  We will definitely never forget the weekend!

Tomorrow Michael will take his 2nd exam of the semester, and I'm so excited, mainly because exam days are the only days that we really get to spend a lot of time together and with friends without worrying about school.  

Rainy Days

It has been raining non-stop here on the lovely island of Dominica for at least a week straight!  I've been forced to stay inside for way too long!  We have this wonderful Tropical Depression on top of us right now, and I'm just hoping it doesn't turn into a Tropical Cyclone before it decides to leave us!

The water has been off since late yesterday afternoon, and is all brown and yucky!  The roads are wet and muddy, and I don't have my favorite rain boots to save me!

On a much happier note, last night was crazy busy at work.  The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th semesters had their first mini yesterday, and what better way to celebrate than to come up to the bar and have SEVERAL drinks!  It as a great night of working and hanging out with friends!  For now here is a picture of the local tropical storm on us right now.  The red is where we are and this storm is slowly gaining power!  We'll see how the next few days go!  Until next time!
